Royalty free music How it works

19 11 2007

There are many applications for which music must be licensed, such as for use in video and multimedia production, but the traditional payment structure (in which a royalty is charged for each usage) would be cumbersome or more costly. Royalty-free music libraries address this by offering music that can be purchased for (in most cases) a one-time fee and then be used by the purchaser as many times as needed. For example: If a piece of royalty-free music was purchased to be used on a multimedia CD project, it would not matter if one CD or 100,000 CDs were produced – the purchase fee would be exactly the same. Precise details of the payment structure and the extent of the rights granted vary from library to library, as specified in a license agreement.

Production music

19 11 2007

Production music is the name given to the music owned by production music libraries and licensed to customers for use in film, television, radio and other media. Unlike popular and classical music publishers, who typically own less than 50 percent of the copyright in a composition, music production libraries own all of the copyrights of their music, meaning that it can be licensed without seeking the composer’s permission, as is necessary in licensing music from normal publishers. This is because virtually all music created for music libraries is done on a work for hire basis. Production music is therefore a very convenient medium for media producers – they can be assured that they will be able to license any piece of music in the library at a reasonable rate. Production music libraries will typically offer a broad range of musical styles and genres, enabling producers and editors to find much of what they need in the same library. Music libraries vary in size from a few hundred tracks up to many thousands.

About Royalty free music

19 11 2007

In a world of growing media applications the demand for music is more than ever essential in every production. Unfortunately you can’t just choose your favorite song and put it in your video project, wed site, podcast or even YouTube with out the written permission of the owner of the work. And even if you got the permission it would probably cost you a small fortune. This is why Royalty free music is your best choice. Not only you don’t have to worry about any legal issues but also you will not have to pay a pretty big amount to get the license for the music. Royalty free music is getting better these days as musicians are more open to the idea of composing music for this use. The market for this kind of music will grow very soon as more applications are invented that will require this licensing format.
